Ball of Confusion

So what has actually changed since that song was written? Not a heck of a lot. I thought that we are supposed to learn from our mistakes (so my brother reminds me) obviously not. Here are the Headlines from this morning’s NY Times (one of my indulgences on the weekends).

U.S OFFICIALS AND EXPERTS AT ODD ON THREAT POSED BY ISIS.

U.S WEIGHS DIRECT MILITARY ACTION AGAINST ISIS IN SYRIA.

EXECUTIONS IN GAZA ARE A WARNING TO SPIES.

CONVOY OF TRUCKS RETURNS TO RUSSIA FROM UKRAINE.

LATVIA’S TENSIONS WITH RUSSIANS AT HOME PERSIST IN SHADOW OF UKRAINE.

BLACKOUTS IN EGYPT PROMPT ACCUSATIONS.

PENTAGON SAYS CHINESE FIGHTER JET CONFRONTED AMERICAN NAVY PLANE.

TWO NEW CASES OF EBOLA STEM FROM INDIRECT CONTACT.

DOZENS KILLED AT SUNNI MOSQUE IN IRAQ AFTER ATTACK ON SHIITE LEADER.

RUSSIANS OPEN FIRE IN UKRAINE, NATO REPORTS.

(OK ENOUGH OVER SEAS NOW FOR US HEADLINES)

U.S FACES SUIT OVER TACTICS AT IMMIGRANT DETENTION CENTER.

EX-GOVERNOR OF VIRGINIA DENIES GRAFT CHARGES AND DEFENDS WIFE.

KEY FACTOR IN POLICE SHOOTINGS: ‘REASONABLE FEAR’.

AS LAW ENFORCEMENT PRESENCE EASES, ‘SMALL GAINS’ NOTED IN FERGUSON.

FOR STUDENT LOAN BORROWERS IN DEFAULT, REDEMPTION JUST GOT EASIER (WOO HOO).

FED CHIEF SEES NOT ENOUGH DATA TO RAISE RATES.

FATAL CONFRONTATION HEIGHTENS TENSIONS IN STATEN ISLAND POLICE PRECINCT.

And the list could go on and on and on. This actually is calm compared to how the week went. Now I am fully aware that these kinds of articles help fuel advertising and that if everything was ‘peachy keen’ then no one would buy the paper or watch the news AND that the purpose of the news has morphed to where it is not really to inform but to sell advertising. I’m not that naive but still.

Well tomorrow is another day. The sun will rise in the east and set in the west and just maybe we will all have learned something.
